Mark Twain Elementary School offers students a full curriculum of both core academic subjects and special supplementary courses designed to strengthen and enrich the education process. Along with daily instruction in essential subjects such as reading, spelling, mathematics, writing, social studies and science, all students attend regular classes in art, music, physical education, computer use and library skills, as well as periodic enrichment programs on a variety of topics. When appropriate, individual Twain students are also offered additional opportunities in gifted and talented, literacy support, counseling, and other targeted areas.
The instructional system employed at Twain Elementary is derived from a carefully planned mixture of traditional and progressive techniques. It encourages a love for learning among students while requiring them to demonstrate a mastery of basic skills. It is directed by the teachers but fashioned to the individual needs of students.
Littleton Public Schools offers district-wide curriculum for each subject area and each grade level. The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment oversees the development and maintenance of all curricular areas. District curriculum guides are used by teachers to plan instruction.
